About the Council

The Council governs the LWF between Assemblies. It is elected by the Assembly.

The Council:

• decides on the structure of the LWF Communion Office
• sets the LWF budget
• presents an annual report to the member churches
• elects the General Secretary and directs her/his work

Membership

• 48 persons, elected by the Assembly
• the President, elected by the Assembly
• the Chairperson of the Finance Committee, if he/she is elected from outside the Council

Its members include:

• ordained and lay persons
• women and men
• youth

Committees and sub-committees give direction in a specific area of the LWF’s work:

• Committee for Advocacy and Public Voice
• Finance Committee
• Committee for Holistic Mission and Member Church Relations
• Committee for Theology and Ecumenical Relations
• Committee for World Service
• Standing Committee for Communication and Fundraising
• Standing Committee for Constitution and Membership
• Board of the Lutheran Foundation for Interconfessional Research
